The Mold Remediation Specialist Certification validates competency to:

  • Perform mold remediation for structures and contents
  • Design and maintain containments
  • Control pressure differentials
  • Safely work in mold-contaminated environments
  • Understand common remediation work practices
  • Review protocols
  • Design and implement remediation processes
  • Understand and follow industry standards and legal requirements
  • Recognize conditions conducive for causing mold growth
  • Prevent amplification and containment for a variety of building types
  • Implement proper use of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of removal/remediation processes

Requirements: 

  • Applicants must meet a minimum of one (1) year of verifiable mold remediation field experience.
  • Pay a $150 non-refundable/non-transferable application fee
  • Applications are automatically denied if a year of field experience cannot be verified.
  • Applicants must pay a non-refundable/non-transferable examination fee of $300.
  • There are no study guides for this exam. This is an experience-based certification that requires prior knowledge and real-world experience for the applicant to be approved for the examination.
  • The exam is a proctored, closed book, two hours, and consists of 100 questions
  • If an applicant fails the exam, she or he can pay an additional $200 non-refundable reexamination fee.
  • If the applicant fails a second time, the applicant must wait a year to reapply and start the process over.
